    Training on SymbioCity Approach

    During 5th – 9th December, 24 urban planners and architects from cities in Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine met for the first time in Skopje to get a general introduction to the SymbioCity Approach and how it can be used during planning, development and management of urban areas.

    SKL International is looking for an experienced and dynamic urban specialist to lead its strategic work with the SymbioCity Approach (SCA) – a concept and platform to support sustainable urban development and alleviate urban poverty around the globe. This includes providing strategic direction to ongoing SCA initiatives as well as the long-term development of SKL International’s SCA platform. The Urban Specialist will also be responsible for providing hands-on support to SymbioCity projects in the Sub-Saharan region.

    SKL International is looking for an experienced and dynamic Spanish-speaking project manager to lead its work in the Latin America region. This includes managing existing and expected projects in Colombia, Bolivia and Cuba, as well as other short-term assignments. The Project Manager will also be responsible for identifying and developing new opportunities in the region.

    Baseline Assessment on 5 Libyan Municipalities

    On Tuesday 25th October, SKL International presented the findings of its Baseline Assessment on 5 Municipalities (Abyar, Benghazi, Gmenis, Sulouq and Tourka) in Benghazi District, to the Libya Donor-Implementer Coordination Group on Local Governance at the Regency Hotel in Tunis.

    Participation at Habitat III in Quito

    SALAR and SKL International participated at Habitat III – The United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development — which took place in Quito, Ecuador between 17 — 20 October. The main mission of the Conference was the adoption of a New Urban Agenda — a document intended to be action-oriented in setting global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development.

    Improving the situation for vulnerable citizens in Romania

    This was the second visit of SKL International to Romania as part of its study on how the situation for vulnerable Romanian citizens can be improved through cooperation on local government level. The first visit, held in July 2016, focused on understanding the context, challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

    Launching the U-LEAD programme in Ukraine

    SKL International is launching the ”Ukraine Local Empowerment, Accountability and Development Programme” (U-LEAD program). The overall objective of the U-LEAD programme is to contribute to the establishment of multilevel governance which is transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of the population in Ukraine.
