    Helpdesk studies the “shrinking space” for civil society in Africa

    In January 2015 SKL International completed a study for Sida on the conditions for civil society to operate in Africa. Civil society organisations (CSOs) are an important partner in Swedish development cooperation. However, government restrictions are making it increasingly difficult for CSOs to operate effectively. Sida asked SKL International to explore the conditions for civil society in 15 African countries where Sida is active.

    Official Launching Week in Ukraine

    On November 17, the Swedish Embassy in Kyiv, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) and SKL International officially launched the three-year project “Support to Decentralization in Ukraine” in Kyiv. The successful event was jointly hosted with partners Government of Ukraine (GoU) and attracted a broad representation of key stakeholders in decentralization reforms in Ukraine.

    SymbioCity approach in Turkey!

    On November 20-21, SKL International was represented at the Livable Cities Symposium in Izmir, Turkey, to present the SymbioCity approach in a special session organized by Business Sweden. The event was attended by Turkish mayors and other central and local government representatives as well as international actors at the forefront of sustainable urban development.

    Tunisian partners visit Poland

    During 27 – 30 October, a delegation from the Federation of Tunisian Cities (FNVT) and Tunisian Ministry of Interior visited Poland as part of the Tunisia Local Governance Pilot Project (TLG2P). The purpose of the visit was to review the Polish decentralization experience, in line with current discussions on decentralization in Tunisia.
