On the 16th of January, SALAR arranged an International Day for political representatives and civil servants from municipalities, county councils or regions. The day was arranged for the fifth year in a row, this year the theme was how we can create a sustainable society.

In a collaborative effort together with the Swedish Embassy and the Swedish Trade Council in Kenya, SKL International conducted a workshop on sustainable urban development based on the SymbioCity approach.

The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities in Serbia (SCTM) is making a feasability study concerning a possible establishment of an office in Brussels. As a part of this study a small SCTM-delegation visited Brussels 12-16 November 2012 in order to share the experiences of other national associations already represented there.

SKL International has established a regional office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in Amman, Jordan. The office was established following a steady increase in demand for SKL International’s services in the region, during the last 3 years.

On 14 – 19 September, the Gender Working Group of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), the Serbian counterpart to the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), visited Sweden to gain practical experience of gender mainstreaming at local level.

During 17 – 21 September, the newly-constituted EU Working Group of Serbia’s national local government association, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), visited Sweden to review the preparations and ongoing work of SALAR in relation to Sweden’s EU membership.

This week marked the launch of the first meetings of the thematic local partnerships clusters between Swedish and Serbian Municipalities. During 10 – 11 September, representatives from the Swedish Municipalities of Malmö, Växjö and Gävle visited cluster partner municipalities in Belgrade, Nis and Zrenjanin, respectively.
