Currently working with: Urban Specialist at the SymbioCity Approach Secretariat with focus on strategic and long-term development of the approach as well as technical support to cities during implementation. She is currently managing ongoing SymbioCity Approach projects in Myanmar and Tunisia.
Professional profile: Helena joined SKL International in April 2017 and has more than 10 years of experience in the field of urban development and planning with focus on holistic, participatory and integrated processes. She holds a Master’s degree in Spatial Planning and Urban Design from Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden and Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Her professional experience within international development cooperation is diverse and includes countries such as Afghanistan, China, India, South Africa, Myanmar and Tunisia.
Helena has gained broad Swedish and International experience in the field working for UN-Habitat, Architecture without borders and Sweco Architects. She has managed various integrated urban development projects from detailed to strategic and regional planning as well as community-led upgrading projects in informal, post-conflict and post-disaster areas. Previous experience involves social equity perspective, civic empowerment, social resilience, incremental development, gender-sensitive design, urban design analysis as well as strategies for sustainable development. She has provided technical support to different levels of management in development agencies, governments, local and regional authorities, professionals, communities and NGOs, linking community-based development and strategic urban planning with policy development and capacity-building activities.
