• Institutional cooperation between CAM and SALAR/SKL International

  Institutional co-operation project between SALAR/SKL International and the China Association of Mayors (CAM) enhanced the capacity of CAM and reinforced its role as a representative of local governments in China.

• Federation of elected women: An important step towards improved local governance in India

  Successful formation of a federation of elected women – SUGRAMA – played crucial role in the Swedish Indian Co-operation to Strengthen Local Governance.

• Centre for local development in Syria

  SKL International is part of a consortium that is implementing a decentralisation and local development progam in Syria, the so called MAM II project. Project partners are Sofreco (lead) and WYG from France and UK respectively.

• Expert to the Committee of Regions

  Expert to the Committee of Regions position paper on potential candidate countries 2010.

• Partnership on transparency between local governments and their communities

  25 municipalities in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana are engaged in P3 – a joint initiative specialized in issues such as local economic development, service delivery and transparency.

• Supporting creation of local self governance in Belarus

  The ongoing project in Belarus, managed by SKL International is developed in close relations to Belarusian partners in academia and the NGO-sector as well as the Parliament and regional and local councils.

• Support to capacity-building: training program on local governance and democracy in South Africa

  SKL International and SALGA (South African Local Government Association) have cooperated on a training program for South African municipalities since 2005.

• Supporting Swedish Municipalities in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals

  SALAR:s MDG-project targets 100 Swedish Municipalities and offers support in analyzing, developing and communicating their work for the Millennium Development Goals (MDG:s).

• Programming assignment: sub-national governance in Iraq

  Owing to the revised country strategy for Swedish development cooperation with Iraq, SKL International was commissioned by Sida in 2008 to carry out a pre-study on Iraqi sub-national governance.

• Tusenet – thematic local partnerships and strengthening the Turkish Union of Municipalities

  The Swedish aid agency Sida is financing this innovative project, which involves the Swedish and Turkish associations of local authorities, five Swedish and 23 Turkish municipalities.
