Tunisian Gender Working Group in Sweden
As part of the Tunisian Local Governance Project (TLGP), a study visit on Gender Mainstreaming was organized on 6-7 February for the FNVT Gender Working Group. The Gender Working Group consists of representatives of a number of Tunisian Municipalities, the National Federation for Tunisian Cities (FNVT), the Ministry of Local Affairs, the Ministry of Women as well as experts from the civil society. The Gender Working Group has been undergoing a training since December 2016 on tools for gender mainstreaming, gender awareness and gender communication.
The main focus of the visit was to introduce the group to practical experience and examples on gender mainstreaming on the local level. The programme of the week included visits to Umeå Municipality, Västerbotten County Board and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR).
The participants are currently working on developing inidividual projects on gender Mainstreaming within the context of their work using the 4R method. The different projects developed by the participants will serve as examples of good practice on how to apply and integrate gender equality at the level of local authorities in particular and in Tunisian society in general. Similarly, these projects will also serve to define a gender policy for the National Federation of Tunisian Cities.
