Albania study visit on waste management

Local representatives from Albania were introduced to Swedish waste management.

A group of Mayors and practitioners from Albanian Communes and the Albanian Association of Communes visited Sweden as part of the Development of the Albanian Association of Communes (DAAC) Phase-Out project, during 22 – 27 May 2011.

The participants visited a number of Swedish Municipalities including joint waste management authorities in the Stockholm and Kalmar regions. Participants were exposed to technical and administrative practice, under the expectation that Swedish experiences would be of value for Albanian Communes as they begin to take up new responsibilities, including approximation of EU environmental regulations.

Participating Communes also had the opportunity to explore the possibility to establish longer-lasting cooperation with Swedish Municipalities including Huddinge, Sigtuna, Kalmar and neighbouring Municipalities (through the joint management authority www.ksrr.se).
