Bringing the World to Stockholm

The growing world of SKL International was connected live when SALAR (the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions) held it’s “International Day” late January.
Representatives and project staff from five countries were interviewed by the participants, local and regional politicians and staff, about “their” projects, countries and regions.

The idea of setting up a direct connection with field representatives and bring the reality of SKL International and SALAR development cooperation projects into the venue of the International Day was much appreciated. So were the special treats from the respective countries, like Baklava from Jordan and Turkish delight from Ankara.
SKL International today has a regional representative in Amman, Jordan and project staff in Ukraine (Kiev), Tunisia (Tunis), Kenya (Nairobi) and Turkey (Ankara). The experience show the importance of a close presence in project implementation, especially in projects that intends to strengthen other local government associations.
The “International Day” is an annual event organized by the International Section of SALAR. The focus is on international opportunities for municipalities and regions, both within the European Union and in development cooperation. The majority of SALAR members are engaged in some kind of international activities like town twinning, EU-financed projects or exchange programmes.
