Colombia: TerriData Nominated for Innovation Award in Digital Government

The Territorial Statistics System of Colombia – TerriData – has been nominated for the Digital Government Innovation Award (INDIGO Award) in the Open Digital State category. The INDIGO Awards are granted annually by the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia. Along with TerriData four other initiatives were nominated. TerriData is a tool developed through the FOINCIDE project funded by SIDA and implemented by SKL International.

The FOINCIDE project is designed to contribute both to the improvement of citizen participation exercises and socio-political inclusion at the local level, as well as to inspire to new political approaches within the Colombian national public policies for territorial management. Funding for this project comes from SIDA (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) through the Swedish embassy in Bogotá. However, responsibility for the content of the publication rests exclusively with SKL International.

Presentation of TerriData to OECD and other international experts

Within the framework of an event on functional regions and public investment, the National Planning Department of Colombia presented TerriData to a group of international experts. Among the experts were Ana Moreno from the OECD, Alessandro Alasia from Statistics Canada, Héctor Macías from the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) of Mexico, and Juan Carlos Duque from the research group Research in Spatial Economics (RiSE) of the EAFIT University in Medellín. Mr. Alasia was the main author of the chapter on territorial statistics of the Territorial Review 2014 of the OECD for Colombia. All the experts agreed that TerriData is a very important advance for the country in terms of territorial statistics.
