Serbian Gender Working Group in Sweden
On 14 – 19 September, the Gender Working Group of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), the Serbian counterpart to the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), visited Sweden to gain practical experience of gender mainstreaming at local level.
The visit was divided into two parts, the first one taking place in Umeå in the north of Sweden. Two intensive days included presentations on gender mainstreaming in the county of Västerbotten, visits to the municipality of Vännäs and Vindeln as well as a bus tour through the gendered scenery of Umeå. The second part of the visit was held in Stockholm and consisted of meetings with political representatives from the Moderat Women of Sweden and from Feminist Initative, as well as an appreciated excercise with pracital applications of gender theories.
“Friendliness, hospitability, new experiences and knowledge” were the words used by one participant when evaluating the days spent in Sweden.
The visit is part of the gender component of the ‘Support to Local Governments in Serbia in the EU integration process’ programme, which is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by SALAR and SKL International, together with SCTM.
