SKL International takes on work with decentralization of the pre-school system in Ukraine

SKL International has together with the City of Kiev (KMDA), started cooperation in the sphere of management and financing of the municipal preschool system. The cooperation so far includes a review of statistical and budgetary data, identification of strong and weak points of the current model of financing the Kiev preschools, and preparation of possible scenarios under a decentralization agenda.

The work is conducted jointly with the Kiev City team providing data and detailed understanding of present situation in the city, and the DSP project experts providing international experience and technical support.

On the 4th of June a joint international seminar on Municipal Preschool Management was conducted for the purpose of presenting and discussing possibilities and challenges ahead. The seminar which was opened by the Swedish Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Martin Hagström was attended by over 300 participants representing officials from Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Sciences, officials from KMDA, Specialists of budgeting and management of preschools from all over Ukraine and selected international experts. From Sweden, Haninge Kommun was represented through Mr. Mats Ohlin, Head of Education Department.
