Social workers develops PTSD competence in Diwaniyah, Iraq
7-9 February, Dr Roha, Psychologist from Diwaniyah University, organised a training seminar on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for 23 teachers and social workers from Al Rajaa Institute, Al Noor Institute, Orphanage for the girls, Orphanage for the boys, and the Institute for the mute and deaf.
The first seminar was of introductory character. This will be followed by Dr Roha paying on the job visits to each institute to discuss cases based on a diagnostic form. In April a second – advanced- PTSD training seminar will be organised with the same group. This will be followed by a one-day summing up a month later. As all participants have real life experiences of PTSD to share and also area expected to react to the emotional de-attachment needed to approach PTSD among beneficiaries, Dr Roha will put special attention to the needs of teachers and social workers towards the end of the process.
SKL International has since 2012 implemented the Sida-supported project Governance in Social Care Iraq where the aim is to strengthen local governance in the social care sector in two Iraqi governorates, Duhok and Diwaniyah. The local implementing partner is IRFAD.
