Description of Project
The Municipal Partnership Programme of Central and Eastern Europe enables Swedish municipalities and County Councils to engage in co-operations with counterparts in Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldavia and Turkey. The purpose of the programme is to increase local governance and local democracy. The partnerships are result-oriented and should have objectives which both partners profit from attaining. The partnerships could deal with such problems as:
- solid waste management
- urban planning
- democracy and local administration
- gender equality
- environmental issues
From 2009 new applications are handled by International Center for Local Democracy – ICLD. http://www.icld.se
Description of Services provided
SKL International has administered the programme on commission by SALAR. This has entailed support to municipalities in the project generation phase as well as monitoring and evaluation of project reports.
