Description of Project

The overall objective of the project was to assist and support the Associations of Local Authorities in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland in the preparations for the EU membership.

The objectives were:

  • Strengthen the image and role of local authorities, their respective Associations in the process of national negotiations for the EU membership
  • Prepare the policies for the contribution of local and regional authorities and their member-organizations for the process of implementation of the EU legislation in each country
  • Establish networks and prepare models for working with the EU bodies
  • Prepare resource persons for advising the local authorities on EU issues and on the possibilities to develop the local level through co-operation of the regional and structural funds.
