  • SKL International supported municipalities in Colombia to act on the rise in domestic violence during the COVID-19 crisis
    The Covid-19 crisis has exposed that there is a long road ahead of us to achieve gender equality. Although violence against women was already alarmingly high prior to the pandemic, in Colombia, as in other countries, an increase in domestic violence was reported following the measures to handle the health crisis.

  • Online closing ceremony after three years SymbioCity Capacity Building Programme in Myanmar
    The overall objective of the SymbioCity Capacity Building Programme has been to have a critical mass of urban development stakeholders in Myanmar capacitated to better address pro-poor sustainable urban development and create a forum for continuous capacity development and training established. To conclude the programme a Training of Trainers event as well as a closing ceremony were successfully held online on 15th and 16th September.

  • SKL International and partners launches pilot app to fight Covid-19 in Akkar, Lebanon
    Salamati, a GIS-based application helping local authorities to enable rapid initial screening of potential #COVID_19 cases and the identification of areas and people at high risk, is launched for testing with the Union of Jurd Al-Qayta in Akkar.

  • Launch of new www.symbiocity.org!
    This new website provides information on SymbioCity and shares different methodologies, tools, guidelines, processes and services that contribute to urban poverty reduction and improved living conditions for all.

  • SymbioCity Kenya Releases the publication Planning our towns: a toolkit for inclusive urban development in Kenya
    SymbioCity Kenya Programme is a partnership between the Council of Governors and SKL International, with funding from the Swedish Embassy to Kenya. As part of the programme, sustainable approaches to urban development has been piloted in seven Kenyan counties. The counties have jointly gone through the SymbioCity Process, from planning to implementation of urban improvements.

  • Launch of Serbian Gender Champion Network in Stockholm
    Since several years, SALAR and SKL International manage a project in co-operation with the Serbian local government association; Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM). The main purpose of the project is to support SCTM and Serbian local governments to prepare for a future EU-membership, e.g. by providing direct support to selected municipalities for improved service delivery in; environment, emergency prevention, human rights and gender equality.

  • Focus on process of public particiaption when Colombia visits Sweden
    The functioning of citizen dialogue in the Swedish system, decisions taken and actions carried out through citizen participation in the Swedish context, examples of municipal collaboration and tools to analyze and manage conflicts were among the key contents on the agenda for the Colombian municipal representatives during a week of study visit in Stockholm in the beginning of September.

  • Cities Developing Solutions will meet in Istanbul
    Marmara Urban Forum (MARUF), is a biennial international urban forum to be organized by Marmara Municipalities Union for the first time on 1-3 October 2019 for three days at Istanbul Congress Center in Istanbul, Turkey.The conference, organized with the motto “Cities Developing Solutions”, will bring together stakeholders that play an important role in the design, transformation and management of cities, as well as different approaches to urban services and city management. Guided by the Sustainable Development Goals, the forum provide the basis for sharing knowledge, experience and opportunities with more than 200 speakers from 25 countries and 3000 participants. SKL and SKL International will participate both as moderators and panellists.
